BMX bikes are measured in two ways, the size of the wheel (20” is the standard BMX Wheel size) and the length of the frame which is gauged by the top tube measurement. However freestyle BMX bikes are more dependant on the riders height and come in wheel sizes ranging from 12" - 24". Kids BMX bikes use a smaller wheel size to allow for a smaller bike while maintaining that classic BMX bike feel. When it comes to race bikes, all the wheels are 20” in diameter but the smaller bikes use a thinner tyre for less drag and weight savings. Ultimately the Top Tube (TT) measurement is the most important measurement when considering a new bike andis more important than wheel size.
